Mark Haughwout for the Arizona House of Representatives

A special 'Thank You' to everyone who has helped me to qualify for Clean Elections funding.  I am committed to spending my campaign funds locally in our district as a way of supporting and saying Thanks to the community!

Mark Haughwout is a Certified Clean Elections candidate:

As a Clean Elections Candidate I will not be accepting donations from corporations or special interest groups.

Mark Haughwout is opposed to the pollution that will be created by the proposed Desert Rock coal fired power plant.

Desert Rock Power plant will add to the pollution in the Four Corners area and those communities downwind.  Desert Rock will also greatly increase the total amount of Greenhouse gases being released into our environment.
One of the other candidates is a lawyer who represents this Pollution Plant.
Visit my Issues page for more info or view the Sierra Club's position here.

Mark Haughwout will NOT be accepting endorsements from Casinos!

Unlike my opponents, I refuse to let Casinos influence my campaign.  When I challenged the right of a Pro-Pollution Lawyer to be on the Democratic ballot, the first complaint I received was that the Casinos didn't like my challenge.  Unfortunately several of my fellow Democrats bowed to the Casinos and other money interests.  I didn't give in then and I won't give in now!  I stand with my Navajo friends that oppose Casino Gambling on Navajoland and who oppose polluting our environment!

Affordable Housing:

I am opposed to raising property taxes on our working class and small businesses.  At a time when many of our families are facing losing their homes due to high mortgage payments, I am shocked that our incumbent Democratic representatives, voted to increase property taxes, which in turn will further increase mortgage payments.  While they may claim it will only mean giving up a few lattes a month, I claim that for our working class it means giving up a few boxes of cereal for our kid's breakfasts every month!  Instead of raising taxes on our working class, I propose raising property tax on second homes, requiring private golf courses to pay property tax at the business rate and requiring big business to pay the full property tax rate.  (Currently companies such as Walmart are receiving exemptions from property tax, while the burden is shifted to small businesses and homeowners!)

Vote for Mark on Tuesday September 2, 2008.
